At the end of the month, take a short pause to review money received, spent and saved. Use what you learn to improve the next month’s plan.
Steps to follow
Gather this month’s information
Review your notebook, receipts and available statements. Record money actually received separately from payments you are still waiting for.
Compare the plan with reality
Find where spending was higher or lower than planned. Note why, such as higher transport costs or an equipment repair.
Check goals and upcoming commitments
Compare savings with your goal. Check unpaid commitments and their dates; not every amount in an account is free for new spending.
Choose one adjustment for next month
Revise an estimate that did not match reality or prepare for an approaching expense. If you expect harvest income, plan around when payment may arrive rather than treating it as cash already available.
A planning example
Example: a month with a repair
The household had a plan, but an equipment repair added an expense. Record the repair separately and review its effect on savings. In the following month, include a repair reserve in your planning instead of assuming it cannot happen again.
Your reminders
- I compared the plan with actual spending.
- I know what remains due and when.
- I chose one adjustment to follow through.
