Questions to ask about a service

Ask about requirements, costs and how a service works before deciding.

When speaking with the SACCO, start with what you need to do. Ask for information about that specific service and note anything that needs clarification.

Steps to follow

  1. Ask what is required to begin

Who can use the service? Which documents are needed, and what happens after you provide them? Confirm the requirements before travelling or preparing a file.

  2. Ask for a full explanation of costs

Ask which charges apply, how they are calculated and when they are paid. Request the current tariff. For a loan, ask for the repayment schedule and total amount repayable.

  3. Understand how the service works

Ask where the service is available, processing times, limits and how to change or stop it. If a document needs signing, clarify anything unclear and ask for a copy.

  4. Know how to get help

Ask who to contact if something goes wrong and how to follow up. Keep the documents you receive and the date of the conversation.

A planning example

Example: asking about a savings service

You want to save for a family goal. Ask about requirements, deposits, withdrawals, all applicable charges and access to statements. Compare the answers with when you expect to need the money.

Your reminders

  • I have explanations of requirements and current costs.
  • I noted anything I still do not understand.
  • I know where to ask and how to follow up.
